Osage Nation's Maria Tallchief honored with Barbie doll

Post by admin »

Maria Tallchief, an Osage dancer from Oklahoma known as "America's first prima ballerina" is the latest in the line of Inspiring Women to be immortalized as a Barbie doll.

In celebration of Native American Heritage Month this November, Mattel and the Osage Nation announced Thursday that Tallchief is the latest icon to be added to the Barbie Inspiring Women Series.

"Maria Tallchief was an extraordinary person with immense talent who remained grounded in her Osage culture,” said Osage Nation Principal Chief Geoffrey Standing Bear in a statement. “She remains a guiding light for many across the globe, especially here at home on the Osage Nation Reservation. Her many accomplishments exemplify that you can achieve your dreams with hard work and determination."

He added, "We are proud that Mattel and the Tallchief family created a Barbie honoring Maria to ensure future generations learn about her remarkable life."
