In 1990, President George H.W. Bush signed a joint congressional resolution to designate November as National American Indian Heritage Month. This month builds on the initial proclamation of American Indian Week in 1986.
Purpose
The month is a platform for Native people to share their culture and traditions, and for non-native people to learn about Native American history and rights.
